If you’ve been sexually active for awhile now, you probably have a preferred contraceptive method you stick faithfully to. For some of you, that may be condoms. Some of you may be contraceptive pill junkies. Whatever it is, your choice of contraceptive actually says a lot about the kind of girl you are.
Are you a planner, a procrastinator or just the kind of girl who likes to go with the flow? This is what your preferred method of birth control says about you.
1. Birth Control Pills
You’re a creature of habit – the kind of girl who functions best with routine and wouldn’t have it any other way. You like your days to run according to plan. You probably have multiple planners and alarms going off on your phone every couple of hours, reminding you to complete every task you’ve set out for the day – not that you need the reminder, since you’ve got it all stored up in your brain.
You’re a girl who likes to go with the flow. Only when things start getting hot and heavy do you start thinking about contraception. You’d rather not spend your days dealing with your hormones going haywire, all in the name of safe sex. Your man takes as much responsibility in this as you do – you know because you’ve seen those Durex boxes in his bedside drawer.
3. Intrauterine Device (IUD)
‘Better safe than sorry’ are words you choose to live by. You’re not ready to start thinking about starting a family right away, so you know how important it is to think about contraceptives. Unlike the girl who has multiple organizers, you have none. Even if you did, you’d probably forget to write in it anyway. You want the easiest way out when it comes to birth control – life is stressful enough as it is.
4. Morning After Pill
You’re spontaneous. You love to live in the moment and take life as it comes. Your friends always say “use protection!”, but it goes in one ear and out the other – what’s the worst thing that could happen? You like a little bit of risk, a little bit of recklessness, although you’re fully aware of what’s at stake. While as far as you’re concerned, the Morning After Pill is a gift from the gods, be warned: because the morning after pill contains about 12-13 times the dosage of regular birth control pills, that’ll be some hellish hormonal side effects you might have to deal with each time you take it.
5. Contraceptive Vaginal Ring
The quintessential modern-day woman, you’re adventurous and you love trying new things – especially if it makes your life easier. The contraceptive vaginal ring works easily enough – insert it and leave it there for 3 out of 4 weeks of the month. It’s a cinch and that’s exactly why you love it!
In the world of contraceptives, there are ample options available for both men and women. Each contraceptive comes with its own pros and cons, and ultimately, your preferred contraceptive depends on (and reflects) your personality, the kind of lifestyle you lead and your sexual habits!
